In this video, you will learn how to utilise succulents, crafted in the previous videos, for cake decorating and cupcakes. The process begins with a simple cake, which could either be a dummy cake for practice or a real cake for an actual event.
When inserting wired decorations such as succulents or flowers into cakes, it's important to never insert the wire directly into the cake. This is because the wire is not food-safe. Instead, a barrier is used to protect the cake and make the decoration secure. This can be a food-grade plastic straw or a dowel. The straw or dowel is inserted into the cake first, and then the wired decoration is inserted into the straw or dowel. This ensures that the wire does not come into direct contact with the cake.
The straw or dowel should be cut to the correct length before being inserted into the cake. It should be long enough to hold the decoration securely, but not so long that it protrudes from the top of the cake. The decoration can then be pushed into the straw or dowel, ensuring it sits securely and is positioned correctly. This technique allows for safe and secure insertion of wired decorations into cakes, ensuring the cake remains edible and the decorations are stable.
For smaller succulents made on angel hair pasta, these can be pushed directly into the cake. Distribute these smaller succulents around the cake to build up a beautiful arrangement. To further enhance the decoration, consider adding chocolate rocks or other edible decorations around the succulents. This can add an extra layer of texture and visual interest to the cake.
For cupcakes, a similar process can be followed. Start with a chocolate cupcake, add chocolate buttercream and cookie crumbs, then top with a small succulent. Again, the succulent can be inserted directly into the cupcake.
For a more elaborate dessert, consider creating a layered dessert in a glass bowl. Start with a layer of chocolate cookie crumbs, add a layer of cake or brownie, then top with chocolate buttercream. Finish with a succulent and some chocolate rocks for a dessert that is as beautiful as it is delicious.
Remember, these are just suggestions and the possibilities are endless. Feel free to experiment with different arrangements and decorations to create your own unique succulent-themed desserts.
