Stephanotis & Nicotiana - Sugar Filler Flowers Part 2
In this video, Nicholas Lodge introduces the innovative Katy Sue Flower Pro Ultimate Filler Flowers mould, which can be used to create over 20 different flowers, buds, and blossoms. The focus of this presentation is on creating the classic Stephanotis, a beautiful bridal flower, and a variation on that, the Nicotiana, also known as the tobacco flower, a popular garden flower that comes in beautiful colours of greens, plums, and pinks.
Begin by preparing some floral tape buds for the Stephanotis buds and flowers. Take a 24-gauge wire and wrap it half with light green floral tape, stretching the tape a little bit. Go around the end of the wire five times, then hook the wire over the end using a pair of pliers. Go around five more times on top, keeping tension on the tape. This should be done about two-thirds of the way down the wire. Prepare these for both flowers and buds.
To create the Stephanotis flower, use a number eight ball of paste. Condition the paste and roll it into a sausage about 30 millimetres long. Push the umbrella tool into the top of the sausage, then cut where each of the five lines are using small embroidery scissors. Flatten the paste with your thumb and finger, then position it onto the mould so each of the petals goes down the middle of each of the sections. Press paste into all five petals until filled. Remove the paste from the mould and pinch the petals to create a characteristic shape. Make a hole in the centre to accommodate the wire, then thread the wire through the flower until it just disappears below the little cup. Mould the paste around the bottom of the flower to create a rounded shape. Allow to dry for about 2 to 3 hours.
To colour the Stephanotis flower, use pearl dust and brush it over the flower. Add a soft green colour around the base of the flower and bud, then lightly stroke from the top down to add a soft green colour to the top. The flowers can be steamed to give them a beautiful, waxy look
The Nicotiana flower can also be created using the Flower Pro Ultimate Filler Flower mould. Follow the same steps as for the Stephanotis, but use a number nine small ball of paste and bring it right to the edge of the mould when pressing it in. The Nicotiana flower has a more pointed petal, so pinch it to create a pointed shape. Once dry, add a calyx and colour it with pale green and prairie green, adding a little amber chocolate brown in the centre.
This video provides a detailed guide to creating beautiful Stephanotis and Nicotiana flowers using the Katy Sue Flower Pro Ultimate Filler Flowers mould. These flowers can be used in a variety of ways, from cake decorations to flower arrangements, and can be created in a range of beautiful colours.
