Baby's Breath, Mimosa & Pussy Willow - Sugar Filler Flowers Part 3
Welcome to this instructional video on using the Ultimate Filler Flower Mould, a versatile tool that can be used to create over 20 different flowers, pods, and blossoms. This guide will focus on the use of two specific cavities within the mold, which are ideal for creating Baby's Breath (or Gypsophila), Mimosa, and Pussy Willow.
Baby's Breath, or Gypsophila, is a popular addition to fresh flower arrangements. To create the buds for this flower, use a size guide and white petal paste, or gum paste, or flower modelling paste. 30 gauge wires, cut into quarter lengths, are used to create the buds. A small ball of paste is formed and attached to the end of the wire. Once dry, this forms a solid foundation for the bud.
To create the flowers, use the part of the cavity that has two sizes. For the smaller Baby's Breath flowers, use a number three size ball of paste. Condition the paste with a little vegetable shortening and a touch of cornstarch. Press the paste into the bottom of the mould using a companion stick.
The wires used for the flowers should have a small hook on the end. After brushing a little egg white onto the hook, push it into the mould and flex the mould to ensure the paste is pushed around the wire. Once removed from the mould, use a little cornflour or cornstarch on your fingers to taper the back of the flower into a cone shape.
Mimosa is a beautiful spring blossom that can also be created using the same two cavities used for Baby's Breath. Begin by covering a 30 gauge wire with quarter width green floral tape. Cut the wire into six sections and make a small hook on the end of each.
Use yellow gum paste and a number four or five size ball of paste, depending on the desired size of the Mimosa. Add a little cornstarch to the paste and drop it into the bottom of the mould. Press the paste into the mold, then insert the wire hook into the paste. Flex the mould to work the paste around the wire, then remove the paste from the mould.
To create Pussy Willow, follow the same steps as for Mimosa, but use brown floral tape to cover the wire and white petal paste. Assemble the Pussy Willow tightly to the stem, using the brown floral tape to go up and down the stem a couple of times. Texture the tape with scissors to give it a bark-like appearance. Dust the Pussy Willow with a pale grey petal dust and add a touch of pale chocolate at the base.
Once the flowers and buds are dry, they can be assembled into groupings using very skinny floral tape. The flowers can be arranged in a flat spray for a bouquet or in a more dimensional arrangement.
The Ultimate Filler Flower Mold is a versatile tool that can be used to create a variety of flowers for any arrangement. With practice, it's possible to create beautiful, realistic flowers that add a special touch to any bouquet or display. Enjoy exploring the possibilities with this innovative tool.
