Quick Peony For Cakes Using Petal Cutters
This video tutorial introduces the process of creating a quick peony for cakes using the 70, 90 and 110 mm cutters from the set of five Petal Rose Blossom cutters. These cutters are versatile and can be used to create a variety of flowers, such as peonies, anemones, and fantasy flowers.
To begin, follow the instructions for making the rose cone, as detailed in a separate tutorial. Create an all-in-one cone by placing a ball of paste on a wire and rotating it in the mould. While the paste is still soft, remove the point of the cone using a pair of scissors. This forms a ball for the peony, which should be left to dry for approximately 6 to 8 hours.
Once the ball is dry, take some paste (the colour is up to personal preference) and work a little bit of vegetable shortening and white fat into it. Roll out the paste and pass it through a pasta machine on number three thickness. This thickness is ideal for creating the veined and ruffled appearance of peony petals.
Cut out the petal shapes using the five Petal Rose Cutter. These cutters have a professional cutting edge, ensuring clean cuts without any fuzzy edges on the petals, even with thicker paste.
The petals are then veined using a veining tool. This tool can be used for a variety of flowers, including roses, sweet peas, lilies, and orchids. The petals are then pressed with an acrylic press to distribute the weight evenly and create a vacuum that keeps the petals attached to the veining tool.
Once veined, the petals are worked on a pad using a Dresden tool to frill the edges. The pad is then turned over to the soft side, and the petals are worked from the outside to the inside. This process is repeated for each petal.
The petals are then assembled onto the dried ball, which has been brushed with edible glue or egg white. The petals are arranged in a specific order and pattern to create the appearance of a peony. The process is repeated with different sizes of petals to create a fuller flower.
Once the flower is assembled, it is left to dry upside down on a heavy-duty drying rack. Sponge pieces can be inserted into the right-hand side of the petals to create a more open appearance if desired.
The final step is to create the calyx of the peony using the smallest cutter from the Pro Cut Flower Pro Blossom Cutter set. The calyx is attached to the flower using egg white, and the flower is pushed through the centre of the calyx. The calyx is then pulled around the flower and pressed down to secure it.
This process creates a quick and beautiful peony that can be used for a variety of purposes, from decorating cakes to creating floral arrangements. The use of the five Petal Rose Blossom cutters makes this process efficient and versatile, allowing for the creation of a variety of flowers with a single set of cutters.
