This video tutorial provides detailed instructions on how to create a stunning peony flower using sugarcraft techniques. The peony is a large, beautiful flower that can add a touch of elegance to any cake design. Let's delve into the process of crafting this exquisite flower.

Begin by creating the peony centre. This can be made from a ball of paste or a styrene ball, depending on your preference. The centre should be attached to a 20-gauge wire.

Next, create the petals. For this peony, you will need six small size petals, five medium size petals, and ten large size petals. The petals should be made using the Flower Pro mould and veiner. Once the petals are prepared, start assembling the flower. Attach the petals to the centre, starting with the small ones. Ensure that the left-hand side of each petal overlaps the previous one, creating a cabbage-style effect.

After attaching the small petals, move on to the medium ones. These should be attached in the same manner as the small petals. After all the petals are attached, place some sponge pieces underneath the outside petals to help them maintain their shape whilst drying. 

The last layer will be the large petals. These should be wired, allowed to dry and dusted with colours before being added to the flower. Use a fuchsia colour to brush around the edges of the petals, creating stripes that come from the top down. Add some prairie green colour in stripes on the petals and the flower centre. This should be done in three stripes on the front and back of the petals.

To assemble begin by taking the first of the large petals. Instead of attaching it directly at the bottom of the flower, keep the wire straight and leave a small gap between the bottom of the flower and the bottom of the wire. This will cause the petal to go in at an angle, preventing the flower from opening up too much. Continue to add the remaining large petals in the same manner, ensuring each petal is positioned to create a natural, layered look.

After all the large petals are attached, the flower should be taped down to secure everything in place. The final step is to add the calyx. This can be made from green paste cut into a specific shape and attached to the flower. Once the calyx is attached, allow to dry and add a little colour to it with dusts. Now steam to comlete your peony.

If desired, leaves can be added to the peony. These can be made using the peony leaf mould and attached to the flower.

Remember, the size of the peony can be adjusted to suit the size of the cake it will be decorating. More petals can be added to create a larger, fuller flower.
