Make An Oriental Peony For Cakes
Creating an Oriental-style peony flower can add a touch of elegance to any occasion. This video tutorial provides a step-by-step guide on how to craft this beautiful flower using various materials and techniques. Whether you're adorning a cake or creating a bouquet, this detailed guide will help you bring this stunning flower to life.
To create the centre of the Oriental-style peony, begin by attaching a piece of yellow paste to a floral taped wire. Insert this into the peony mould to add detail. Remove it from the mould and cut the tip into three parts to mimic the natural structure of a peony's centre. Stamens are then added to this centre piece.
For the petals, use the peony mould and veiner from the Flower Pro collection. Roll out the paste thinly and press it into the mould to form the petal shapes with textured detail. To give the petals a curved shape, they are placed in cavities formed in a softer food service sheet foil. Depending on the desired size of the flower, create small, medium, large, and extra-large petals. These petals are then left to dry.
Once dry, the petals are taped using half-width floral tape, starting about two centimetres down from the top of the petal and sliding the tape up to meet the paste. This technique ensures a neat finish and should extend about one inch down the stems.
Now, it's time to add colour to the petals. A colour called Cosmos, a soft pink, is recommended for this project. Using a flat brush, work from the outside to the inside of the petal with the pink colour. This process should be repeated for all the petals. The stamens of the flower should also be coloured. Add a bit of the pink colour to the stamens to create a soft, yellowy pink colour.
Next, add some green to the petals. A light apple green is recommended. Use a smaller flat brush to add three stripes of the pale green down the middle of the petal and on the right and left sides.
Finally, assemble the flower. Start by bending the petal slightly with pliers. The first five petals should be placed in a spiral formation. The next set of petals should be placed slightly lower, creating an overlap. Continue this process until all the petals have been added.
Once the flower is assembled, steam it to set the colours. This will give the peony a vibrant and realistic look.
This Oriental-style peony flower is a stunning addition to any decoration. Whether used alone or with other flowers, it is sure to impress.
