In this video, we will explore the process of creating realistic ferns using Flower Pro silicone moulds. This technique is versatile, allowing for the creation of ferns in various sizes and colours to match any floral arrangement. The ferns can be made in green for a natural look, or in autumn colours, white, or any other colour to coordinate with the flowers being used.
Begin by preparing the flower paste or gum paste. For a natural look, use foliage green colouring. The silicone mould designed by Katy Sue Designs is recommended for this process. It is a two-part mould (both for front and back of ferns) that can create three different sizes of ferns: small, medium, and large.
To create the ferns, start by placing the coloured paste into the mould. Ensure the paste is pressed firmly into each section of the mould to capture all the intricate details. The ferns can be wired at this stage if being used in a floral arrangement. This wire is embedded into the paste while still in the mould. Now, use the fern back embosser to add texture the the back of the paste. Carefully remove the fern from the mould. Be gentle during this process to avoid distorting or damaging the fine details.
Once the paste is dry you are able to colour the ferns. Use a brush to apply food safe dusts in the chosen colour to each fern. Steam to fix the colours and your fern is now ready to be added to any floral arrangement. Their realistic appearance and versatility make them a beautiful addition to any project.
