Filler Flowers Cake Decorating
This video provides a step-by-step guide on how to complete a wedding cake decoration using filler flowers. The process involves the use of various tools and techniques to achieve a beautiful and professional-looking result. The instructions are clear and straightforward, making it easy for anyone to follow, regardless of their level of experience in cake decoration.
To begin, a styrene separator of approximately two and a half centimetres is used. This separator is placed between a six and four-inch size cake. It's important to note that the styrene should not be placed directly onto the cake surface; instead, it should be placed on a cake board.
The side of the separator is decorated using a fern mould to create a textured pattern. This texture adds a visual detail when viewed through the separator. The fern mould is pressed onto the surface in a random pattern, cut into a strip, and then applied to the separator using some piping gel.
An assortment of filler flowers is used, along with some ferns. These ferns come in various sizes and can be made using the fern mould. There is a separate tutorial available on how to make these. To attach the ferns, use a little bit of super bond or softened fondant. This can be made by softening some sugar paste or rolled fondant with a bit of water to create a thick glue. Alternatively, piping gel can also be used. Apply a bit of this glue onto the back of the fern and attach it to the edge of the cake.
Next, make some holes in the styrene or Styrofoam using a small companion tool. These holes will accommodate the ferns and flowers. Make a hole where the flower will go, dip it into some softened rolled fondant or sugar paste or a bit of piping gel, and push it into the hole. Use a pair of tweezers to insert it into the separator. Continue this process, filling in the space with additional flowers such as hyacinths. All the flowers used on this cake can be made using one mould.
A floral separator is a great way to give height to a cake and balance the colour for the cake topper. For the top of the cake, insert a flower pick. Remember, wires should never be inserted directly into the cake surface. A spray of flowers, wired into a crescent shape, can then be inserted into the top of the cake. Adjust the ribbons and flowers until they are in the correct position using tweezers.
To finish off, use a soft pink organza style ribbon that doesn't detract from the flowers, which are the focal point of the cake. The result is a beautiful wedding cake decorated with two Flower Pro moulds. The fern and the Ultimate Filler Flower Mould are used for all the flowers. This single mould can make over 30 different flowers, pods, and blossoms.
