Asian Flowers - Ginkgo, Japanese Maple & Plum Blossom
This video tutorial will guide you through creating Ginkgo leaves, Japanese Maple, and the enchanting Plum Blossom. These floral elements are perfect to pair with your previously made Bamboo and Camellia for a complete Asian-themed arrangement.
Crafting Ginkgo Leaves:
Start by taking a no.8 size ball of lime green paste and roll it into a sausage that fits the Ginkgo cavity in the Flower Pro Maple, Ivy, and Ginkgo Leaves Mould & Veiner. Lightly grease the mould with white vegetable fat to ensure easy removal. Press the paste into the mould, ensuring it's fully filled, then use the plain side of the Fan Veiner to flatten and define the edges. Insert a 26 gauge white wire for support and use the Fan Veiner again to add detailed veining on the back. Remove the leaf, create small slices for texture, and shape it on a mini pad. Let it dry in a foam former, then colour with Lemon Yellow, Harrison’s Yellow, and Lime Green before applying a light spray of lacquer for protection.
Japanese Maple Creation:
For the Japanese Maple leaves, use a similar process but start with different sizes of lime green paste balls for varied leaf sizes. After pressing each ball into the Japanese Maple cavity and defining with the Dresden tool, create a ridge for the wire. Once veined and shaped, allow the leaves to dry before assembling them into a natural-looking branch using brown floral tape. Dust with Apple Green and Moss Green for a lifelike appearance and finish with a glaze.
Assembling Plum Blossom:
The Plum Blossom centres are created using one of three methods involving silk stamens or thread wrapped around a wire. Each method involves shaping the centre, attaching it to the wire, and then dusting with colours to mimic natural tones. For the petals, shape the paste in the Blossom Mould, vein and hollow them before assembling around the stamen centre. Ensure all parts are well secured and dried before assembling into a full blossom.
Final Assembly:
Once all individual components are prepared and dried, begin constructing your Asian flowers. Attach each element to a wire, adjusting the placement for a balanced and harmonious display. Finish by dusting and sealing with lacquer to enhance the colours and ensure durability.
Whether used as cake decorations or as part of a home décor project, these flowers will add an element of sophistication to any setting.
