To start, use the medium-sized central cone (made freehand or using the rose cone mould) and the small petal from the Flower Pro Tulip mould. Alternatively, for a larger version of the tulip, the large cone and large petal can be used. The cone should generally be the same colour as the tulip you are making, but white is also acceptable.

Once the cone is dry, use the number seven small on the size guide to create the petals. The paste should be shaped into a cone that is about two-thirds the height of the peony petal mould cavity. Apply a bit of cornflour to the paste and press it in using the mould. Use a cosmetic sponge to pull the paste to the edge, filling in the petal mould. The petal can then be removed from the mould.

Once you have made all petals, apply egg white or edible glue all over the cone. Take the first petal, ensuring the textured side is on the outside, and attach it to the cone so that it stands straight up. Attach the second petal inside the first, leaving the right-hand side of the petal open. The third petal is then placed inside the second and on top of the first, creating a spiral. This will cover the cone with the three petals.

The next three petals are attached in the same way. Apply egg white or edible glue about halfway down the edge and down the centre of each petal. These petals are placed in between the gaps of the first three petals, creating a spiral.

Once the tulip is formed and dried, it can be dusted with super pearl dust. This gives the tulip a natural lustre. A light apple green colour can be applied to the middle of the flower for a soft green centre. Use a flat brush to add three stripes up from the base of the tulip. A slightly darker prairie green colour can be applied at the very base of the tulip.

The tulip can then be lightly steamed to bring it to life and enhance the lustre from the pearl dust. This quick and easy tulip is perfect for a small birthday cake or any occasion where a quick flower decoration is needed. Leaves can be made in the same way as shown in the parrot tulip instruction, but made smaller and skinnier. The final result is a small French or Dutch tulip, a simple yet elegant addition to any cake.
