Start by making the throat. Measure two no.2 small size balls of yellow paste and place them into the mould cavity shown in the video. Then touch the top of these flattened balls with vegetable fat / shortening. Place white paste into the mould, covering the yellow paste and using a cosmetic sponge and Dresden tool, work the paste into the mould. Take 24 gauge white wire, dip into egg white and insert about half way. Remove paste from the mould and allow to dry.

Next, make the sepals. Take a ball of white paste and place into the mould cavity. Press into the mould with cosmetic sponge. Press the Flower Pro Fan Veiner onto the back of each sepal. Remove paste from the mould.

Now it's time to make the wing petals. Press white paste into the mould cavity with a cosmetic sponge, then press down the Vanda Orchid Veiner on the back of the petal. Remove from the mould and repeat the process to make another petal.

To assemble brush egg white on the back point of each wing petal. Attach to the sepals, pressing in the centre where the elements join. Lift the flower onto a crate foam former to give shape. Using the companion tool drill a hole through the centre, gently twisting through the flower. Leave to dry.

Add two 24 gauge wires to the throat and tape down using quarter width light green floral tape. Bend the throat slightly at an angle then thread the wire through centre hole of the petals / sepals. Take a little egg white / paste mixture onto a Dresden tool and fill where the throat meets the petals to glue in place. Hang upside down to dry.

Once the orchid is assembled, the next step is to add colour to enhance its realism. Start by lightly dusting the centre part of the orchid with pearl dust. This gives a subtle shine without being overly glossy. Once the colouring is complete, the orchid should be lightly steamed to set the colour.
