In this video, we delve into the intricate process of creating a Dendrobium Orchid using the Flower Pro Orchids mould. This beautiful flower, often used in wedding bouquets and sprays, comes in a variety of colours, offering endless possibilities for your cake decorating projects. The following step-by-step guide will walk you through the process, ensuring you achieve a realistic and stunning result.

Start by making the Column. Take a 26 gauge white wire and using pliers bend a small 3mm hook at the end. Measure a no.4 small size ball of white paste and dust with a little cornflour. Brush egg white onto the wire hook and insert into the ball of paste, shaping the paste into a cone the same length as the mould cavity. Press the paste into the mould cavity with a cosmetic sponge.

Flex the mould to release the paste. Place onto a cosmetic sponge and press to cup each of the three sections of the column. Gently curl the sections in with your fingers and set aside. Measure a no.1 size ball of yellow paste and press the paste into the mould cavity. Flex the mould to release the paste. Apply a little egg white to the top section of the column, then using the needle end of the Companion Tool attach the yellow paste to the column.

Next make the throat of the orchid. Press white paste into the mould cavity with a cosmetic sponge. Remove from the mould, place onto a Mini Pad and frill the top lobe with a Dresden tool. Roll the ball end of the Companion Tool down the centre of the two side sections to give a curl. Brush egg white half way down the centre of the throat. Take your column and, with the yellow part facing inwards, attach to the throat, wrapping the throat around.

To make the sepals roll a no.7 small size ball of white paste into a sausage the length ofmould cavity. Press into the sepal mould cavity using a cosmetic sponge. Remove from the mould, turn over and place back into the mould. Press gently with a cosmetic sponge to vein the back. Place face down onto the black side of the Mini Pad and soften the edges using a medium ball tool.

For the peatls, press white paste into each mould cavity, remove, turn over and place into the opposite side of the mould. Press gently with a cosmetic sponge to vein the other side and remove from mould.

To assemble, brush egg white on the two corners of the sepal. Attach the petals here and, using the ball end of the Companion Tool, press to cup where the petals meet. Brush a little egg white at base of the throat, push the throat wire through between the petals and pull through the centre of the sepal and petals. After joining, the components should be allowed to dry.

For colouring, begin with a base of pearlescent dust, brushing it all over the flower. If the shine is too strong, it can be diluted with cornflour or cornstarch. Apply a small amount of daffodil yellow dust to the throat of the flower, brushing it in to highlight the details. Use a magenta or bright pink dust on the tips of the petals, brushing from the top down. Finally, steam the flower to set the dust and give it a natural, waxy appearance.

By following these steps, you can create a stunning Dendrobium Orchid that will add a touch of elegance to any cake design.
