Gerbera Daisy For Cake Decorating
This video tutorial provides a step-by-step process to create a stunning, realistic Gerbera Daisy for cakes. The process involves several stages, from creating the centre of the flower, to adding the calyx and dusting the flower for a realistic finish.
To create the centre of the Gerbera Daisy, begin by using a small amount of paste, about the size of a number 5 or 6 size ball. Roll the paste into a cone shape and place it into the centre mould. Press the paste into the mould, ensuring it fills all the cavities to capture the intricate details. Once the paste is firmly pressed into the mould, add a wire to act as the stem of the flower. Flex the mould to release the centre. This should result in a detailed, realistic centre for the Gerbera Daisy.
Use the Flower Pro Ultimate Sunflower/Daisy Mould to make the petals. Once all the textured petals are released from the mould, they can be assembled. Start with the first group of five petals, followed by the next group, and so on, until all the petals are attached together. Create a cavity in the middle of the collection of petals using a large jumbo bowling tool or a rolling pin. This helps to fuse the petals together and gives the flower its characteristic shape.
Now, add the centre part of the flower, which was made earlier. Apply egg white to the centre and push the attached wire through the middle of the petals. Allow to dry in a former so the flower dries in a natural shape.
Make the calyx using a mould and green paste. There are two methods of making the calyx - one using two halves and the other using an all-in-one method. Attach the calyx to the Gerbera Daisy using egg white as glue.
Once dry, dust the Gerbera Daisy using a combination of magenta and fuchsia colour dust. Apply the dust from the outside to the inside on the petals, leaving the original colour visible at the base.
Use a steamer to set the colours on the flower. This gives the flower a high shine which will disappear to leave a subtle sheen. By following this process, a stunning Gerbera Daisy can be created. This flower can be used in a variety of arrangements and is sure to impress with its realistic appearance.
