Make Camellia Flowers For Cakes & Clay Crafts - Part 2
Welcome to Part 2 of our Asian Flowers & Foliage series, where we continue our journey with the exquisite Camellia. This section dives deeper into the creation of buds and calyx, complementing the vibrant red Camellia we crafted previously.
Crafting Camellia Buds:
- Starting the Buds: For the small bud, wrap floral tape around a 22 gauge wire to form a bud base, shaping a hook and securing it with additional wraps. For the large bud, use a larger piece of paste and a similar wrapping technique but with more layers for added bulk.
- Adding Texture: Roll the paste into a cone for both buds, trimming excess and adding texture with the Flower Pro Ultimate Petal Veiner. Detail the buds using an umbrella tool and the Companion Tool for realistic depressions and textures.
Creating the Calyx:
- Preparation: Use moss-coloured paste, thinned with a pasta machine, to cut petal shapes with a blossom cutter. Prepare these shapes to later wrap around the buds.
- Assembly: Attach the shaped petals to the buds using egg white, arranging them artistically to mimic natural growth, ensuring they are secured and positioned for drying.
Leaves:
- Leaf Formation: Roll out moss green paste and cut into various sizes for large, medium, and small leaves using designated cutters. Embed wires into each leaf for support and extend them to create a natural leaf shape.
- Veining and Shaping: Utilize the Flower Pro Multi Leaf Veiner to imprint detailed veining patterns. Use the Companion Tool to refine the edges and create a realistic leaf texture.
Finishing Touches:
- Colouring: Apply a delicate blend of ruby, lime green, and chocolate dust to petals, buds, and leaves to enhance depth and realism. Steam the components to set the colours and add a protective lacquer for a glossy finish.
- Assembly: Methodically arrange and attach the leaves and buds around the Camellia flower, using floral tape to secure them along the stem.
This detailed approach to creating a Camellia with buds and leaves will help you craft a stunning addition to any Asian-themed floral arrangement or as a standalone display. Enjoy bringing these botanical beauties to life with precision and creativity!
