In this video tutorial, we'll explore how to arrange daisies and sunflowers on a cake. We'll start with a topsy turvy style cake, which is an angled cake that's perfect for floral arrangements.
To prepare the cake, use food grade plastic dowels, cut to the depth of the cake. These dowels provide support for the flowers. Once these have been inserted, position the Gerbera daisy in the middle of the arrangement, with extension leaves and Marguerite Daisies coming off to the side. The stems of the flowers are bent almost at a right angle to fit into the dowels.
Once the flowers are stable, we'll add a swallowtail ribbon wrapped around a wire. This helps balance the arrangement. We can tweak the as needed to create a beautiful spray.
For a different style, we can use a cake that's been cut off at an angle and covered with sugar paste. This cake is actually decorated with dragon scales for texture. Not what you'd first think of but it works well for this project.
On this cake, we'll arrange two smaller sunflowers and one larger sunflower. The sunflower stem are bent at an angle and inserted into the cake. We'll use a ball of sugar paste or fondant to secure the flowers to the cake. Add a ribbon loop for extra decoration.
Remember to stay within the perimeter of the cake board when arranging the flowers. This ensures that everything is protected and stable.
All the flowers for this tutorial are created using the ultimate daisy and sunflower mould.
