How to make columns for a cake with the Ancient Columns Cake Decorating Moulds
Have you ever wondered how you go about creating column cake supports? Well if so you are just in luck!
Today our good friend and cake decorating pro, Dawn Butler, literally takes it to the next level as she walks you through how to create columns that can work amazingly as support for tiers on a cake. Traditional wedding cakes often showed off spectacular columns and pillars and now you can create this look easier than ever thanks to our silicone mould.
Tiered cakes are unbelievably impressive and fun to look at as the top tier halos over the lower one making for a dramatic and elegant result. Tiered cakes can also be surprisingly useful too. If you are baking and decorating a cake for a large group then a one tier cake is going to take up some serious table space, which just isn't practical.

Although many opt to use these moulds as part of a mythical underwater adventure theme, Dawn demonstrates how versatile they really are in using them to support the upper tier of her awe inspiring tiered cake.

"I really loved the fact that I could use the column mould as REAL columns. I did this by pushing a sausage of sugar paste into the mould. Then I pressed my chosen cake dowel into the sugar paste. I then closed up the sugar paste around the dowel, lifted the whole thing out and rotated it before pushing down to get a impression all the way around." - Dawn
"Whilst I love the plain white version of this cake, I also dusted the moulds with old luster dust to really pick out the detail." - Dawn
