In this video the focus is on creating small antlers using a mould. These charming antlers are versatile and can be used in a variety of applications, from cookie decorations to cupcake toppers. The process involves using flower paste, petal paste, or homemade paste, and the colour can be customised according to preference.
Begin by examining the small antler mould. This mould creates a delightful set of antlers suitable for a four-inch (ten centimetre) cookie. However, these antlers can also be used on cupcake toppers.
IUsing modelling paste in white is a good choice, with a little bit of grey added. The antlers can be made in a variety of colours, from a creamy colour to a pale grey. The colour can be further enhanced later with brown or cream colours on top. The modelling paste is conditioned with a small amount of vegetable shortening. A small amount of vegetable shortening or vegetable fat is also added to the mould. This can be done with a brush or a finger. The paste is then rolled into a small sausage shape and pressed into the mould. Fill the mould and trim away any excess paste.
If the antlers are not going to be wired, then simply release from the mould. If you'd like to add more structure a 24-gauge wire is used. The wire is placed in the mould and bent to the shape of the mould before releasing. Make the opposite antler in the same way and leave to dry on a silicone mat or craft foam.
Once the antlers are dry, they can be coloured. This can be done with dry powder or paint. The antlers can be steamed to set the colour and then lacquered to give them a shine.
