Make A Calyx For Your Roses
The Flower Pro Rose Calyx mould opens up a world of possibilities for creating stunning roses with intricate calyxes and ovaries. Whether you prefer simple or two-tone calyx designs, this mould simplifies the process and provides consistent, beautiful results.
The mould itself has recessed areas that helps in creating perfectly shaped calyxes. The mould produces well defined calyxes with intricate details, eliminating the need for manually snipping small feathering details.
For the paste, you have various options. You can use pre-made gum paste or flower modeling paste in green shades, such as bright green or darker green. Alternatively, you can use white paste or petal paste and add a green gel colour, like gooseberry, to achieve the desired shade. Different colour combinations allow for customization and creativity in your rose designs.
Depending on the application and visibility of the calyx, you can choose different approaches. For roses where the calyx will not be prominently visible, such as when used as a topper on a wedding cake, you can opt for a simple calyx design. This design involves basic shaping without the need for additional details.
To create a more intricate look, you can make two-tone calyxes. This involves using green and white paste to achieve a contrasting effect. Roll out the green and white pastes separately, ensuring they are slightly wider than the cutter width. Layer the green paste over the white paste and press them into the mold. The resulting calyx will have a white interior and green exterior, adding visual interest to your roses.
Once the calyxes are ready, they can be attached to the roses. Using egg white, brush the lower two-thirds of the calyx with a thin layer. This helps the calyx adhere to the rose and creates a subtle curl at the tip. Position the calyx at the back of the rose and gently press it onto the surface. For larger roses, a line of egg white can be applied down the middle to create a more closed shape.
The mould also includes options for creating ovaries. To create an ovary, press paste into the mould, ensuring it fills the cavity. Use a companion tool or a similar object to create a hole in the center of the paste. Carefully remove the paste from the mould, and brush a small amount of egg white on the flat part. Attach the ovary to the rose using the companion tool, creating a realistic and delicate floral feature.
