In this video, you will see how to create fantasy toadstools using Flower Pro moulds. These charming creations can be used to adorn a variety of baked goods, from cupcakes to Yule logs, adding a touch of whimsy and charm. The video guides you through the entire process, offering tips and techniques to help you create these edible decorations with ease.
To create the stem, roll the a light coloured paste into a cylinder shape and insert it into the stem mould. Press the paste firmly into the mould to ensure it takes on the detailed texture. Carefully remove the moulded stem and set it aside to dry. Now repeat the process, but before removing from the mould add some edible glue and stick the dried half. Flex the mould to release. You should now havve a fully 3D stem.
For the cap, roll the paste into a ball and press it into the cap mould. Again, ensure the paste is pressed firmly into the mould to capture all the intricate details. To add texture to the gills of the mushroom or toadstool, a veiner tool is used. Press the veiner tool into the underside of the cap, creating a series of lines radiating out from the centre. Carefully remove the cap from the mould.
For a more realistic look, the toadstool or mushroom can be painted. This can be done using edible dust colours mixed with a small amount of alcohol, such as vodka or lemon extract. The alcohol evaporates as it dries, leaving only the colour behind.
The toadstools and mushrooms can be used in a variety of ways. For example, they can be placed on top of a Yule log cake, nestled amongst piped buttercream 'moss' and other edible decorations. Alternatively, they can be used to decorate cupcakes, cookies, or any other baked goods that could benefit from a touch of woodland charm.
In addition to the classic red and white toadstools, there are many other variations to explore. For instance, metallic or pearlescent paints can be used to create fantasy-inspired toadstools, perfect for a fairy-themed cake. Similarly, the toadstools can be adapted for Halloween by using darker colours and adding spooky details.
With a little practice and creativity, these charming decorations can bring a touch of magic to fantasy and fairytale baked goods.
