This video demonstrates how to create a foliage topper for a wedding cake using the Flower Pro wedding foliage mould by Katy Sue Designs. The trend of using only foliage in cake decorations is catered to, with instructions on wiring the foliage to a circle cake topper.
The process involves securing the flowers to the cirlce using wire, similar to creating a grapevine wreath. The large eucalyptus is placed at the top, following the shape of the loop, with another eucalyptus placed to balance the first one. The aim is to create a wreath effect, not a complete circle.
The boxwood is threaded through the existing wires, and the large boxwood is used to cover the area where the pick goes in. Silver Dollar eucalyptus is added in the same way, tucked in amongst the other foliage. The second piece of seeded eucalyptus is added to balance the first piece.
Cedar eucalyptus is cut quite short and placed in the centre. Dusty miller is added with care due to its fragile nature. The cake used in this demonstration uses a two-part topper, with the 'Mr. and Mrs.' added to a straw which is inserted into the cakes mid tier. The main wreath sits into the bottom tier.
The topper can be secured further with a wire if needed. The end result is a beautiful, organic-looking foliage topper for a wedding cake.
