This video tutorial provides an effective method for creating stunningly realistic poinsettia decorations for cakes using a Flower Pro mould. With a bit of practice, anyone can master this technique and create stunning cake decorations for the festive season.
To make the cyathium heart take a 28 gauge green wire and bend a small hook at the end. Dip into egg white and push into ball of yellow paste. Place into the heart shape cyathium mould. Place your Companion Tool at the top of the mould and push the paste against it, turnover and repeat. For the cyathium lips create a hooked wire inserted into a ball of yellow paste as before. Push into the lips shape mould and pinch the paste so that the back is rounded. Prepare the same wire and paste for the cyathium feather top. Pinch into the mould. Remove, place onto a foam pad and feather the end with a needle tool. Leave the cyathiums to dry.
When making the bracts take a ball of red paste and shape into a carrot shape two thirds the length of the required bract mould. Insert a wire into the paste. Dust with cornflour and place into the bract mould. Press into the mould using a cosmetic sponge. Press the veiner down while still in the mould to add texture to the back. Flex the mould to remove. Make the leaves with the same method as the bracts but using green paste.
Once all elements have dried you can add colour with edible dusts and assemble. This vibrant, star-shaped flower can add a touch of elegance and festivity to any cake.
