Celebrating International Women's Day: The Journey of Katy Sue Designs
As founder and CEO of Katy Sue Designs, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey my mother, Doreen Thompson, and I have been on since we first began our adventure in my mam's kitchen in South Shields back in 1993. Crafting intricate miniature porcelain dolls with a passion for detail and creativity, we embarked on a journey that, unbeknownst to us at the time, would grow into something much larger than we ever imagined.
We celebrated 30 years of Katy Sue Designs last September, something that wouldn't be possible without your support. Today, on International Women's Day, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our invaluable customers and the creative community that has supported us through the years. Your passion for creativity has been crucial to our success and evolution. For women, crafting is not just a hobby; it's a means of expression, a way to connect with others, and, for many, a vital source of income. The importance of crafting extends beyond the joy it brings; it's a powerful tool for empowerment and entrepreneurship.

Doreen Thompson, in the early days of Katy Sue.
From our very first doll in 1993, to the global business we run today, our journey has been one of evolution, innovation, and passion. Our transition from porcelain dolls to silicone moulds and paper crafts, and ultimately to becoming an internationally recognised brand, reflects our commitment to creativity and excellence. The significance of women-founded businesses cannot be overstated. In a world where women entrepreneurs face myriad challenges, every success story is a beacon of hope and inspiration. Women-founded businesses contribute significantly to the global economy and social change by fostering innovation, creating jobs, and promoting gender equality in the business world.
At Katy Sue Designs, we are proud to be part of the women-founded business community. We believe in the power of creativity to change lives and the importance of supporting and uplifting each other. On this International Women's Day, let us celebrate the achievements and contributions of women around the world. Let's continue to support women in creativity.
As we look to the future, we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. We will continue to innovate, inspire, and support the Katy Sue cake and craft community. Thank you for being part of our journey. Here's to many more years of creativity, empowerment, and success.
Happy International Women's Day!
