Double Stamp Drip Technique with Andy Skinner, a Mixed Media Tutorial

Prepare your materials
You’ll need:
Cosmic Shimmer Mixed Media Card.
Andy’s Let the Adventure Begin Rubber Stamp (or another detailed stamp).
Distress Oxide Ink in Black Soot – you can also add Frayed Burlap for extra tone.
Versafine Onyx Black for the sentiment.
A fine Mister Spray for water, some thin bleach for lifting colour and a liner brush.
Cosmic Shimmer Matt Chalk Paint in Warm White.
Cosmic Shimmer Water-Based Ink in Charcoal Black.
Stamp Platform.
A little isopropanol for cleaning.

Create the first stamp layer
Mist your Cosmic Shimmer Mixed Media Card with a fine spray of water so it beads slightly on the surface.
Ink your stamp with Distress Oxide Black Soot, leaving out the sentiment for now — we’ll add that later for a cleaner result.
Stamp the image gently onto the damp card and lift the platform slowly.
You’ll see the ink start to run and spread as it reacts with the water.
(Optional) Spritz a little more water if you’d like a softer, more fluid spread.
Leave the stamped piece to dry naturally.

Bleach Away Highlights
Once dry, clean your stamp.Using a liner brush, dip into a little thin bleach and carefully paint over the areas where you want to remove some colour — for example, hair highlights, clothing folds, or light reflections.
Don’t overdo it; aim for contrast rather than full removal of the ink.
As the bleach hits the ink, it may first turn light brown but will soon fade back to white or the base colour of the card.
You can also flick or spatter some bleach for added texture and visual interest.
Leave to dry again.

Add the Sentiment
Once the background is dry, realign the sentiment stamp.
Ink it with Versafine Onyx Black, ensuring your pad is nice and juicy but not over-inked.
Stamp firmly and lift to reveal a crisp, clean sentiment above your softened background.
Clean your stamp with isopropanol.

Add Finishing Touches
On a protected surface, use a pipette to drop out a little Charcoal Black water-based ink.
With your liner brush, flick the ink gently over the card for subtle spatters.
Repeat the process with a small amount of Warm White Matte Chalk Paint to create highlights and balance.
If you prefer sharper spatter marks, make sure your surface is fully dry before adding paint or ink.

Experiment and Explore
Andy shows how this technique varies depending on the card you use:
On Smooth White Card, the ink appears darker and cleaner.
On Watercolour Card, the runs and blends are softer for a more organic look.
Try combining two ink colours (like Black Soot and Frayed Burlap) for multi-tone drips and layered depth.
Each result will be slightly different — that’s part of the fun!
