Paint the Base Layer
Place your tag on a craft mat with a piece of parchment or scrap paper underneath to protect your work surface. Load a flat brush with Spiced Raspberry matt chalk paint. Apply an even coat over the entire tag, making sure you catch the edges too. Allow to dry completely, or speed things up with a gentle blast from a heat tool.
Add the Swirled Stencilled Background
Tape the Trance stencil over the dry tag, making sure it’s lying completely flat. Shake the bottle of Daphne chalk paint and decant a small amount onto your palette. Pick up a little paint with a rounded stencil brush, then off-load most of it on scrap card. Using a light circular motion, stencil through the design, building up the colour gradually. Avoid heavy pouncing; too much paint will bleed under the stencil. Check that you’ve taken the pattern right to the edges of the tag. Slowly lift the stencil to reveal a crisp, psychedelic swirl of Daphne over Spiced Raspberry paint – no bleeding and a lovely matte finish. Pop the stencil straight into water so the acrylic paint doesn’t dry on it to make cleaning easier.
Stamp Princess Attitude
Place the dry tag into your stamping platform, securing it in place with the magnets. Position the Princess Attitude stamp face down where you’d like her to stand on the tag. Close the platform onto the stamp and open again to lift the stamp with it. Ink the stamp with black Archival Ink, making sure your add a generous amount of ink across the whole design. Close the platform lid and press evenly over the stamp. Lift the lid and check the impression – re-ink and stamp again if you have missed any areas. Allow this to dry completely but you MUST leave both the tag and stamp in position on the your stamping platform.
Paint the Skin
On your palette, add a small amount of Warm White and a little Coral Glow. Mix together to create a soft peach skin tone – adjust with more Warm White if needed. With a fine detail brush, paint the face, arms and legs of Princess Attitude. You may need two light coats over the vivid background. Don’t worry if you cover the stamped lines slightly – we’ll restore all the detail in the next step, this is why the tag has been left in the stamp platform. Dry thoroughly with a heat tool. You can also paint the wings, hair, boots and clothing but Andy left this so the pink and purple stencil pattern shows through and adds to the intended look.
Re-stamp to Restore the Linework
Once the paint is dry, ink the stamp with black Archival Ink again and stamp over the painted character. This second impression brings back all the fine details over the painted skin areas. To clean the stamp, spritz with isopropanol alcohol or alcohol based hand sanitiser, then wipe with a cloth – quick and easy, and removes any residual ink.
Add the Birthday Sentiments
The Princess Attitude set includes two separate sentiments - “Happy birthday!” and “Now get over yourself and let’s eat cake”. Carefully position these near the bottom of the tag, making sure it’s straight. Ink the combined sentiment stamps with black Archival Ink. Stamp with a light, even pressure so the delicate lettering stays crisp.
