Take inspiration from Flower Pro Design Team member Arati Mirji
This stunning red and white cake by Flower Pro Design Team member Arati Mirji takes inspiration from the traditional Russian sarafan.
Arati is an acclaimed Sugar Flower artist living in Bengaluru India, pursuing her passion – Cake Art – with her forte being making life-like sugar flowers.
For this cake, Arati used a lot of different techniques. The embroidery detailing on the bottom tier was created using the Katy Sue Cross Stitch Mould. "I cut the round moulds into squares to go with my design concept," says Arati.
She then carefully piped the red cross stitch pattern before joining it all together to give a seamless look of continuous cross stitch around the full bottom tier of the cake.
"For the brown belt I used a block printing wooden block used usually for printing on fabric, and the wooden buttons were created using a Marvelous Molds button mould," explains Arati.
For the long, central tier, Arati created the red frill effect herself using her own commercial flexible flowerpaste - 'Flowerpaste by Arati Mirji' (available at aratimirji.com) - which she also used to create the beautiful flowers that sit atop the cake.
The beautiful rose flowers and leaves were created using products from the Flower Pro Collection, a collaboration between Chef Nicholas Lodge and Katy Sue Designs. To achieve beautiful, realistic roses - use the Flower Pro Rose Cones & Thorns Silicone Mould as well as the Flower Pro Cutters Bundle.
The flowers were carefully arranged around a large Katy Sue Twisted Flower Hoop Wooden Cake Topper to create the elegant wreath, adding a gorgeous focal point to the top of this impressive cake.
